Window Treatment Inspiration for 2025 Interior Design Trends

Interior design is ever-evolving. Here are the emerging trends we will be seeing in 2025 and beyond, with tips on incorporating them into your window treatments.

Draperies

Draperies are back and in a big way! As design trends stray from minimalism towards more curated and personalized interiors, people are using draperies to warm up their spaces, add texture, and showcase their unique style. Everything from simple decorative drapery panels to over-the-top dramatic draperies with valences and fringe are in.

When using draperies as a focal point in a room, it is especially important to pay attention to the finer details — material, pleat type, folds, break, widths, trim, rods, rings, and hardware — and to ensure installation is exact to get the eye-catching result you’re after. It’s these seemingly small details that turn draperies into a design feature.

Pleating To Pattern

Pleating to pattern is one of the finer details that can make all the difference in how your draperies look. Pleating to pattern means aligning the pleats with the vertical pattern of the fabric — intentionally adding folds in specific locations of the pattern. This adds symmetry and ensures the pattern looks fabulous whether the drape is open or closed. When a print is not pleated to pattern, it can get lost in the folds and lose its impact or even appear misaligned. Pleating to pattern can turn a simple stripe into a work of art.

As draperies become the focal point in more and more homes, this technique will become more sought after. Large track workrooms focus on output and will likely not stop to consider pleating to pattern. Choose a concierge workroom like Drapery Street that accounts for every nuance and detail and can accommodate pleating to pattern.

Top Treatments

From valences to faux Roman shades to cornices, top treatments are making a comeback. They are especially popular in rooms with coordinating pillows, bedding, or cushions. And like draperies, they are being turned into statement pieces with fringe, trim, scalloped edging, and couture fabrics.

Pro tip: When using a faux treatment like faux Roman shades, ensuring it appears as if it could function is crucial. Otherwise, it will look odd and insignificant in the room.

Small Prints

Prints of all kinds are en vogue, but small prints are especially having a moment in the spotlight. Dainty florals, petit damasks, miniature medallions, and small checks are all popular, but because they are also classic, they’ll stay fresh even when trends shift again.

Café Curtains

Café curtains are having a renaissance and are more darling than ever. They’ve traded in their rod pockets for pleats and rings, giving them a contemporary look while staying true to their French heritage. If you want the functionality of a top-down bottom-up shade but prefer the look of drapes, consider café curtains. They add instant charm and a chic Parisian touch to any space. We especially love them in bathrooms, kitchens, and laundry rooms.

Color-Drenching

Color-drenching is the process of painting a room’s walls, trim, ceiling, and doors the same color for a dramatic look. Window treatments can be used to bring this drenching effect to the windows. Draperies melt into the walls of the same color while also adding a rich texture.

Pattern-Drenching

Pattern-drenching is a similar technique to color-drenching but with, you guessed it, patterns. Think patterned wallpapers, upholstery, cushions, rugs, and window treatments all in the same space. Custom shades and drapes can continue a wallpaper pattern into the window for a continuous look. Or mix and match patterns for a complimentary look. Inversely, solid fabric window treatments can be used in a pattern-drenched room to create a break in patterns and a rest for the eye.

Earth Tones

Pantone announced their 2025 color of the year as Mocha Mousse. They describe it as a “warming, brown hue imbued with richness” and a “versatile shade infused with inherent sophistication and earthy refinement. ” Other companies also selected earthy tones for their 2025 colors of the year. Valpsar chose Encore, an atmospheric blue hue; HGTV Home chose Quietude, a soft sage green; and Glidden chose Purple Basil, a “bold and earthy shade that mimics the beauty and depth of its namesake plant.”

From warm browns to earthy greens and blues, window treatments are an easy and impactful way to add earthy tones to any room. Think beyond just fabric shades and drapes. Shutters, woven wood shades, and wood blinds are also a way to incorporate brown earth tones.

Saturated Colors

In addition to earth tones, saturated colors are trending for 2025. Mix the two trends together and choose hues like forest green, clay brown, or rust. Whatever color catches your attention, opt for a vivid, saturated version rather than the muted tones that have been popular in years past.

For saturated prints, we love Kristy Stafford’s fabrics and wallpapers. Her unique colorways and patterns create signature textiles that are perfect for creating statement shades, drapery, pillows, or cushions.

Embellishments

Trim, fringe, banding, beading… embellishments are more popular than ever. They can be added to couches, ottomans, pillows, and, of course, on window treatments for a bespoke touch. Embellishments add personality and allow for a high level of customization, ensuring your piece is one-of-a-kind.

Automation For Easier Living

Automation is a trend that continues to grow and won’t be going away. In 2025, the focus will be on automation that maximizes ambiance, comfort, and ease of living.

Automated window treatments check each of those boxes. Shades can be programmed to automatically adjust to reduce glare, protect fine art and furniture from direct sunlight, save energy, and maximize privacy and security. Set your shades to wake you with the sunrise or close them with a voice command to create the perfect movie-night ambiance. Automated window treatments anticipate your needs, providing optimal lighting and privacy without you ever having to think about it.
