Window Treatment Inspiration for 2023 Interior Design Trends

Interior design is always evolving. Here are the emerging trends we will be seeing a lot of in 2023 with tips on how to incorporate them into your window treatments.

Color, Color & More Color

From shades of green to soft reds to warm yellows, color is making a comeback! White kitchens and muted living spaces had their moment but now color is returning to our homes in a big way.

Planning to turn up the color in your space this year? One easy way to do so is with draperies or fabric Roman shades. Choose a colorful solid or patterned fabric — either will liven up a space. Add a bright fringe or vibrant trim to the treatment for an even bolder look.

Hunter Douglas blinds, shades, and sheers come in a wide array of colors and hues — a clever option for adding more color to a room. However, be sure to choose a color that you’ll want to live with for years to come, as Hunter Douglas window treatments are built to last a lifetime.

A smart option might be to choose a neutral blind, shade, shutter, or drape that will complement colorful walls and furnishings — something that will look great no matter how many times you paint the walls or swap out your throw pillows.

Warm Neutrals

Can’t get on the color bandwagon? Keep a neutral palette but consider swapping out cool neutrals that have gray undertones with trendier warm neutrals like beige, brown, and cream. Warm neutral colors feel softer and more inviting. After years spent quarantining and social distancing, a warm and welcoming home is a trend that we can get behind.

At the window, consider adding any style shade in a warm neutral tone, shutters with a rich wood stain, or faux wood blinds with cream-colored slats. For a layered look, add a warm neutral drape to complete the look.

Lively Texture

No matter if you’re team color or team warm neutrals, adding texture is a design choice worth embracing. In 2023, this looks like exaggerated veining in marble and natural stone, high-contrast wood grains, and textured plaster and lime wall washes.

When it comes to window treatments, there are several ways to bring in lively texture. Consider woven wood shades made from grasses, reeds, and bamboo. This will check the box of another popular 2023 trend — natural materials. Another option is to choose a blind or shutter that has a noticeable wood grain on the slats. For soft treatments, consider using textured fabrics like velvets or linens.

Our personal favorite is to layer two treatments, like a linen drape with a woven wood shade, for a dynamic textured look.

Transparent Touches

Light and airy details will be seen in both the fashion and the interior world in 2023. In homes, this will look like glass brick, transparent furniture, shimmering accents, and lace details.

For window treatments, consider adding lace trim or ruffle details to your soft treatments. Use translucent drapery rods and hardware.

It doesn’t get any lighter or airy than sheers. Add a flowy sheer drape or sheer shades. Hunter Douglas SilhouetteSilhoutte sheer shades allow you to enjoy filtered light and views while providing privacy and protecting your floors and furniture from UV damage.

Sleeker & Smarter Home Tech

Smart homes continue to get smarter, including automated window treatments. Drapery Street’s next-gen motorization technology allows us to automate any type of treatment and ensure it is easy to use, accurate, and reliable.

Motorized shades

For those that are building in 2023, strongly consider pre-wiring for motorized treatments. This step should be done early in the build process to avoid cutting into drywall. Starting early allows for smart decisions which result in cost-savings

It’s important to work with an expert when prewiring, like our PowerView® motorization pros, who will consider every last detail like where the electrical placements should be, if a support board is required for motorized drapery rods, and where pockets should be placed to hide headrails.

If you are already in your home, it’s not too late for motorized window treatments. To accomplish a clean look, choose products with discreet battery packs hidden in the headrails like those found on Hunter Douglas shades. Bulky battery packs and obvious wires will never be in style!

Sustainable Choices

Sustainable design is a trend that will continue into 2023 and beyond. Earth-conscious homeowners are asking questions like “how is this made” and “what are the environmental impacts of this product” before making purchases.

Hunter Douglas products check the sustainability box many times over. All of their products have undergone rigorous testing and certification from UL Environment to verify that they meet their stringent GREENGUARD GOLD standards for low chemical emissions into indoor air during product usage.

Hunter Douglas wood shutters and blinds are harvested from responsibly managed forests. For every purchase, Hunter Douglas makes a donation to the Arbor Day Foundation® to support its efforts to preserve trees and the rainforest.

Energy-saving cellular shades are an excellent sustainable option. They keep up to 40% more warmth in during the winter and 80% more heat out during the summer, helping you consume less energy year round.

Perhaps the most important aspect of the window treatments we design is that they are built to last. Choosing timeless products that will last a lifetime is a great way to embrace the sustainability trend.

Personalized Interiors

We saved the best 2023 interior design trend for last. After years of neutral rooms and minimalist designs, people are now opting for more personalized interiors. These cozy spaces feature unique art, personalized collections, and family heirlooms mixed with modern pieces.

We love this trend because we are all about customizing unique looks perfectly-tailored to your home and lifestyle. Your home is your home after all, and we believe it should reflect your personality, not that of an influencer or magazine editor. So embrace whatever style that speaks to you, because that’s the only trend that truly matters!
