Metal Blinds FAQs
Will blinds work with my home's décor?
Window blinds can look equally as beautiful in a contemporary, minimalist space as they do under drapery panels in a classic, traditional setting. Your Drapery Street designer will take into account your home's style to custom design blinds that will not just complement but enhance it.
Should I chose wood, faux wood, or metal blinds?
Each type of window blind has its pros and cons. For example, wood blinds are lighter in weight, provide better insulation, and exude the warm richness of real wood but they aren't for use in rooms with high humidity. Whereas faux wood blinds are heavier in weight but they are great in rooms with high heat and humidity while still resembling the look of wood. The are also more affordable.
The great news is that if you work with Drapery Street, you don't have to extensively research or agonize over which material or type of treatment is best suited for your space. Our designers are extensively trained and have years of experience. They know all the considerations to take into account (so you don't have to) and will guide you to the best selections for each room of your home.
What colors are your metal blinds available in?
Choose from numerous hues with special finishes and textures, from metallic and pearlescent to matte. Hunter Douglas Modern Precious Metals® Aluminum Blinds are perfect for high-traffic areas. Besides their durability, they are easy to clean with a simple dusting or once-over with a soft cloth.
What is the de-Light™ feature?
The de-Light™ feature eliminates or decreases the size of cord holes, reducing the amount of light leaking through the blind, resulting in a darker room. This feature is great for bedrooms and home theaters.
What is the MagnaView® feature?
The MagnaView® feature nests slats together when the blinds are open, creating twice the view-through of standard aluminum blinds.
What size slats do your blinds come in?
It depends on your chosen material (wood, faux wood, or metal). Our wood and faux wood blinds come in 2" or 2 ½" slats. Metal blinds come in ½", 1" or 2" slats.
Keep in mind, if you go with smaller slats, it will take more of them to cover the windows and may make larger windows look too busy. As a rule, larger slats look better with bigger windows.
What control options do you offer on your metal blinds?
We offer several options. The Hunter Douglas motorized operating system allows you to operate your blinds with the push of a button or the sound of your voice. The PowerView® app allows you to program your blinds to move automatically throughout the day. Or, pair your motorized blinds with your smart home system.
The LiteRise® system allows you to effortlessly push up or pull down on the blinds to raise and lower them. This system includes your choice of wand or cord for tilting the slats.
The SimpleLift® system allows you to raise and lower the blinds with a button press. This system includes your choice of wand or cord for tilting the slats.
Are your metal blinds motorized or smart home compatible?
Yes. Hunter Douglas metal blinds can be motorized and they are also compatible with a variety of smart home automation systems.
PowerView® allows you to operate your wood blinds with the push of a button or the sound of your voice. The PowerView® app allows you to program your blinds to move automatically throughout the day. Or, pair your motorized blinds with your smart home system.
Do you offer vertical blinds?
Yes. We have offer a variety of vertical window treatments and your DS designer can help you chose the one best suited to your space.
Will horizontal or vertical blinds work better on my windows?
As a general rule, tall, narrow windows work best with horizontal blinds. Windows that are wider than they are tall and slide from side-to-side work better with vertical treatments. Another thing to keep in mind is what direction your windows are facing. Vertical blinds will give you better light control on east- and west-facing windows, due to the angle of the sun coming into your home, while horizontal blinds are easier to control on north- and south-facing windows.
Your DS designer will walk you through all the considerations so the end result meets both your functional and aesthetic goals.
Should I use an inside or outside mount?
It depends on the look and functionality you are trying to achieve. Blinds can be mounted both inside and outside the window frame. Your designer will help you select the best mounting option for your space.
How can I keep my metal blinds from getting so dusty?
The Dust Shield™ finish repels dust so cleaning is no longer a chore! Hunter Douglas Modern Precious Metals® Aluminum Blinds are especially easy to clean with a simple dusting or once-over with a soft cloth.
Can blinds be paired with draperies?
Absolutely! Draperies can add another layer of functionality and they look beautiful when paired with blinds. If you have a more traditional or transitional interior, you may find that adding draperies to your blinds gives you the look you like best.
Can metal blinds be used on doors?
Depending on the type of door, metal blinds might be a good option. Your designer will help you determine if blinds or another window treatment option is best suited for your door.
Do you offer a warranty?
Yes. We stand behind our products and offer a Love It Guarantee, Limited Lifetime Warranty, and Hunter Douglas Right Choice Promise, which provides a 100% satisfaction guarantee.
