Many of our customers are excited about the potential of smart homes. Naturally, we get lots of inquiries about Hunter Douglas’s PowerView® window treatments and how they integrate into whole house systems. For your convenience, we’ve compiled answers to some of your most frequently asked questions here!
1. Which Hunter Douglas window treatments can be motorized?
PowerView can be integrated with 19 different Hunter Douglas window treatments in a wide variety of styles, textiles, and finishes. These include many of our blind treatments, including Applause® and Duette® honeycomb shades, as well as Designer Roller and Screen Shades, Luminette® privacy sheers, our popular Roman shade treatments. Even Pirouette® shadings with Invisi-Lift™, a revolutionary design innovation that allows the vanes to float gracefully with no obvious cords to mar the view through the sheer, can be motorized.
2. Can PowerView integrate with whole home automation systems? Which ones?
PowerView is compatible with 11 different home automation systems: IFTTT, Nest, Logitech, Control4, Universal Remote Control, Elan, Savant, ITI, and Crestron. We’re excited to share that PowerView is also now compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit!
3. Do I have to run wires? Will the wires show?
Wires are not necessary for a functional PowerView system. However, if you are currently building a home, schedule a consultation with Drapery Street early in the construction process so we can review your home plans. We can ensure that proper wiring and space are present to accommodate for the best installation and product for your unique home.
4. How will I control my motorized window treatments?
There are an array of options that will allow you to control your PowerView system no matter where you are. The PowerView hub connects wirelessly to your router using your WiFi network, storing your settings and activating your scenes. The PowerView app is your base of operations, where you will schedule single or multi-room scenes. The Pebble controller is a handheld remote which is available in 7 colors and blends seamlessly into your home. And when away, the RemoteConnect™ feature can access your system from anywhere in the world, increasing your home’s security. You can even control your motorized blinds from Apple HomeKit and Amazon devices like Alexa.
5. What is a “scene?”
Scenes are programmed settings that control the amount of light and privacy your window treatments provide throughout the day. Use scenes to maximize the energy efficiency of your home, wake your family naturally in the mornings, or eliminate glare when you’re reading or watching television. Scenes can involve single or multiple rooms.
6. What if I’m not at home to control my window treatments? Will they still work without me there?
Yes! Scenes can be programmed to run at their designated times whether you are home or away. They can even be set to adjust automatically to shifting sunrise and sunset times throughout the year. And if you’re away from home and need to change your settings, the RemoteConnect™ feature allows you to access them from your mobile device.
7. Can motorized window treatments help with the energy efficiency of my home?
Absolutely. You can set scenes to maximize your home’s efficiency yourself, or integrate PowerView with products like Nest to adapt to changes in your home’s temperature. With Nest, your window treatments will even react to your presence or absence, putting normally scheduled scenes on hold if necessary to focus on privacy or energy conservation.
