We recently completed a project that’s too good to keep to ourselves! It all started when the homeowners were eating lunch at a favorite Indy establishment, The Cake Bake Shop, and chatting about a social media post they saw from local beauty blogger Hollie Woodward. Hollie recently completed her draperies and shades project with Drapery Street and was sharing about it on Instagram. These homeowners took notice and realized their home could use new window treatments.
Their Indianapolis home was about to undergo big design changes and they decided to start with window treatments because light control and privacy were top priorities, especially since the home sits on a corner lot. They began working with Drapery Street’s senior designer, Tiffany Needler on shades and drapes. As the process was rolling along, they brought in their interior designer, Stephanie Wiott, to help finish off their redesigned spaces with more drapes, custom bedding and pillows.

The Selections, Room by Room
The family loves to gather in their living room for movie nights but they needed something to help with sun glare on the television screen. We customized hobbled Roman shades in a favorite Drapery Street bamboo fabric. Roman shades offer the light control they need while adding visual interest to the room. The softness of the treatments is a nice contrast to the stone fireplace.
The neutral fabric complements their beige couch. Down the road, if the family chooses to swap out the couch for something more colorful, the Roman shades will still match. Window treatments are an investment and flexibility is key for longevity.
The living room Roman shades also pair perfectly with the dining room treatments, which is vital as these two rooms are open to one another. In the dining room, Hunter Douglas Provenance Woven Wood Shades were selected. They filter light while infusing the space with organic style and texture. The homeowners decided to leave the transom windows exposed since they allow them to eat their meals in natural light without compromising their privacy.
The sitting room is a more formal space, with elegant yet approachable elements. Draperies were used to up the drama of the room and provide a neutral backdrop for the showstopping velvet blue chairs. The drapery fabric has just a hint of metallic, which brings an extra touch of glamour to the space. Custom matte gold hardware completes the look. The draperies are functional, allowing the couple to close them over the window whenever they want full privacy.
In the primary bedroom, blackout drapes in a neutral tone were selected to keep with the serene feel of the space. The hardware selection was inspired by the room’s stunning gold chandelier. Micro detailing in a blue woven fabric was added to the drapery panels to match the custom velvet pillows. The bedding coordinates perfectly with the drapes and now everything in the room works together to promote a good night’s rest.
Lastly, the homeowners wanted to add more functionality to their guest bedroom windows. They already had a top-down bottom-up cellular shade which helps with privacy and filtering light, but the transom window was uncovered. This left guests exposed to more light at night than desirable. We added functional draperies in a lively print. Now, guests can truly control the amount of light coming into the room.
We loved working with these homeowners and their design team at Stephanie Wiott Designs to create a beautiful, more functional home. But what makes us happiest is that the homeowners are thrilled with the final results!
